The non-profit National Entrepreneurship Network was established in 2003 with a mission to create and support high-growth entrepreneurs, driving job-creation and economic growth. Today, NEN represents the largest, most vibrant community of India's new and future entrepreneurs. Its membership comprises:

 

  • More than 500 top-tier academic institutes across India,
  • A motivated pool of over 1100 entrepreneurship faculty members,
  • Over 380 student Entrepreneurship Cells that count more than 70,000 members, and
  • Thousands of NEN Alumni, now coming together to launch NEN E Clubs

 

Leveraging the resources and programs of the NEN Trust, these members - the NEN institutes, faculty, ECells, and E Clubs – each year run thousands of programs that create and support entrepreneurs. NEN was initiated by the Wadhwani Foundation, and co-founded by IIT Bombay; IIM Ahmedabad; BITS, Pilani; SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai; and the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore.

The Wadhwani Foundation's mission is to help individuals reach their full potential, regardless of background. The foundation invests in non-profit programs to accelerate entrepreneurship – a critical driver of growth and value creation. The foundation's efforts will inspire, educate and support entrepreneurs, and help create an environment in which individuals from all backgrounds can succeed. Founded and funded by Romesh Wadhwani, a serial entrepreneur and also currently the founder CEO of Symphony Technology Group, the Wadhwani Foundation is working to accelerate entrepreneurship in emerging economies.

Proto.in is the biggest event in the Start-up Calendar where experts from across the country choose 15 of India's hottest start-ups from across sectors. Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), a wholly autonomous and not-for-profit institute, set up in 1983, is sponsored by apex financial institutions; the IDBI Bank Ltd., IFCI Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd. and State Bank of India (SBI). The Government of Gujarat pledged twenty-three acres of land on which stands the majestic and sprawling EDI campus.
EDI's pioneering activities in entrepreneurship development training have established that people from all walks of life can become business owners. It has demolished the myth that entrepreneurs are born, and cannot be made. Through well-conceived training interventions and capacity building activities, over last 25 years, EDI has equipped thousands of people with entrepreneurial skills. To pursue its mission further, EDI has helped set up twelve state-level exclusive entrepreneurship development centres and institutes.

The HeadStart Network is a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers and full time professionals to create and promote the innovation ecosystem in India. We define the innovation ecosystem as consisting of entrepreneurs and startups, researchers in academia and industry, adopters of new technology and products, and investors.
Headquartered in Bangalore but carrying out activities in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Delhi (with Pune, Kolkata, Chennai to be added in 2009), the HeadStart Network is led by a team of 16 founders who are a mix of entrepreneurs, academics and industry professionals.
